ORIGIN OF SHIVA Once Brahma the Creator and Vishnu the Preserver of Shristi were embroiled in a bitter argument as to who was greater. Suddenly, an enormous 'Analstambh' a pillar of fire, appeared between them. Brahma took the form of a Swan and flew upward to find its limits while Vishnu took the shape of a Boar and went down to find its base. When they returned Brahma proclaimed he could reach the end and even found Ketaki flowers to testify his claims, whereas Vishnuaccepted his inability to do so. Shiva appeared from the pillar and exposed Brahma's lie and appreciated Vishnu's truthfulness. |
