150 Years of Income Tax Celebrations

In order to commemorate 150 years of Income Tax in India, an art exhibition was organised by the Government of India, at Mumbai in Coomaraswamy Hall (Prince of Wales Museum) in September 2010.

Two of the Artist's work were selected to be part of the travelling show which will be showcased in 16 major cities of India and the grand finale will be held in July 2011 in New Delhi which will be graced by the Honourable President of India.

These work will there after become a part of National Archives.

Tax and Development Past to Future
Although the theme of the exhibition was 150 years of Income tax in nation building, artist has gone beyond 150 years. According to him tax has existed ever since the civilization came in to existence and when ever there was synergy between tax payer and tax authority and money utilised properly for development there was a golden era. In the painting some of such periods have been depicted by showing the gold coin of Gupta period for ancient India, silver coin of Mughal dynasty for medieval India and the first one rupee paper currency introduced by British in modern India. The bright symbol of Indian Rupee expresses the bright future of the Indian economy. The human figure is tax payer and the scale above is the tax authority through the ages.
